Visitor, welcome to your CL:AIRE eAlert for July.

 

We're pleased to publish a number of new PFAS resources this month - 13 PFAS Site Profiles plus a new Technical Bulletin (TB23) and accompanying worksheet tool for new EU Environmental Quality Standard and Groundwater Standards for PFAS. All these PFAS resources, along with several other documents from around the world are freely available on our recently updated PFAS web page at claire.co.uk/PFAS.

 

Our next Members event will be held in Leeds on 15 October. If you are interested in coming along, please complete the registration form. If you’d like to sponsor this event, it is £350 + VAT and details are on the registration form.

CL:AIRE publishes PFAS Site Profiles

CL:AIRE is excited to announce the publication of 13 PFAS Site Profiles that were originally developed by Jacobs as part of the Environment Agency PFAS Risk Screening Project. The profiles represent an understanding of PFAS uses and occurrences from specific industry sectors at the time of writing.

The PFAS Site Profiles are hosted on CL:AIRE’s PFAS webpage (https://claire.co.uk/pfas) which is a compilation of information relevant to the understanding and management of PFAS.  


CL:AIRE publishes new Technical Bulletin TB23 and a PFAS worksheet tool

CL:AIRE is pleased to announce the publication of Technical Bulletin TB23: Worksheet tool for new EU Environmental Quality Standard and Groundwater Standards for PFAS (EU Directive 2026/805). TB23 describes a tool for comparing measured water quality data with the new EU environmental quality standard for inland waters and groundwater standards for PFAS. 

The bulletin and tool (an Excel spreadsheet) were created by Dr Jonathan Smith and are available to download from CL:AIRE’s PFAS webpage (https://claire.co.uk/pfas) which is a compilation of information relevant to the understanding and management of PFAS.  


GPVS application window opens 1 August 2026

The next Gas Protection Verification Accreditation Scheme (GPVS) application window opens on 1 August and closes 30 September 2026. The application window is open to Technician Grade and Specialist Grade applicants. HM Treasury consults on reforming Land Remediation Relief

The government is consulting on potential reforms to make Land Remediation Relief more accessible, better targeted, and more closely aligned with the practical realities of brownfield development. Land Remediation Relief is a 150% Corporation Tax relief aimed at incentivising the regeneration of brownfield land and reducing the pressure to develop greenfield sites.

European Food Safety Authority reduces the safe level of trifluoroacetic acid in the diet

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has reduced the safe level of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) in the diet based on new scientific evidence. TFA is a chemical that can form when per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) break down, including from certain active substances in pesticides. As a result, TFA can end up in groundwater, soil and food crops.
