The JIWG has just published the updated Decision Support Tool "Categorisation of Work Activities involving Asbestos in Soil and C&D Materials in accordance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 - v2 July 2016". It can be downloaded here - Asbestos-dst
This version supersedes the draft BETA version issued in January 2016 and has been updated following extremely positive feedback from industry and to be compatible with the recently published CAR-SOIL (Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 : Interpretation for Managing and Working with Asbestos in Soil and Construction & Demolition materials: Industry Guidance). This tool is accompanied by a User Guide and should be used by competent persons in conjunction with this guidance.
The JIWG would welcome feedback from users of this version on its applicability and validity to the wide range of scenarios that may be encountered when assessing the potential risk from and asbestos licensing status of work with asbestos and asbestos-containing materials in the ground.
Please note that the decision support tool has been produced in macro-enabled Microsoft Excel (compatible with version 2010 and upwards only for PC) and has been uploaded as a zip file in xlsm file format, please bear this in mind when downloading.
