SABRE Bulletin 1 - Project SABRE (Source Area BioRemediation) – an Overview

This bulletin describes an overview of the SABRE project, with key project topics presented in more detail in previous and forthcoming CL:AIRE publications. The SABRE project is one of the most detailed demonstrations of its kind, and the first scientifically robust development of in situ bioremediation of a chlorinated solvent source zone in the UK.

SABRE Bulletin 2 - Site Investigation Techniques for DNAPL Source and Plume Zone Characterisation

This bulletin describes the development of a two-stage site characterisation methodology to guide and inform an assessment of DNAPL distribution at the SABRE site.

SABRE Bulletin 3 - Results of laboratory column studies to determine the potential for bioremediation of chlorinated solvent DNAPL source areas

This bulletin describes laboratory-based continuous flow column studies that were used in the design and operation of the field work and to interpret results obtained from the field.

SABRE Bulletin 4 - Insights and modelling tools for designing and improving chlorinated solvent bioremediation applications

This bulletin describes modelling tools developed to support remediation scheme design and provide insights for future application of the technology.

SABRE Bulletin 5 - Overview of the SABRE field tests

This bulletin describes the contained area field test carried out as part of the SABRE project. It also describes in less detail, field tests conducted in an uncontained area designed to test alternative electron donors and electron donor delivery methods.

SABRE Bulletin 6 - Source Area DNAPL Bioremediation: Performance Monitoring and Assessment

This bulletin is the final instalment of the SABRE (Source Area in situ BioREmediation) bulletin series. It describes performance monitoring and assessment (PMA) approaches undertaken as part of the SABRE Project. The SABRE Project integrated laboratory and field investigations with process modelling and performance assessment, which has greatly enhanced understanding of the technology.

The SABRE Project brought together an international, multidisciplinary team and was the largest project to be funded under the UK LINK Bioremediation Programme. Additional support from project partners, Environment Agency, BBSRC, NERC and EPSRC contributed to making SABRE a success.
