A project to update 15 of the Department of Environment (DoE) series of 47 industry profiles has now finished with funding from the Environment Agency, Association of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Specialists and Natural Resources Wales. The profile pages can be accessed by clicking here - claire.co.uk/doe

The 15 profiles draw on information from the original documents and update them for contaminant groups such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and present the information in a simple interactive matrix, with further information available on each profile as an individual page. The profiles were kindly reviewed by industry volunteers which was a key part of the project. Additional sources of information on the potential contaminants associated with these industries were identified by the volunteers and have been listed with links provided where available.

The original scanned industry profile PDFs have not been updated. However, part of this project has been to make these documents available as searchable PDF downloads and these are also available at claire.co.uk/doe.

Phase 1 of the project (2024) involved the creation of a prototype online tool working with 5 industry profiles initially. Phase 2 (2025/26) involved updating 10 further profiles which were selected from the phase 1 industry consultation, where feedback was gathered about which profiles to update.
